Teaching Materials
Realizing the shift of the role of teaching translation from the traditional one,we made adaptations in the selection of teaching materials and teaching evaluation processes.Being a forerunner in translation training,China has published considerable amount of textbooks on English-Chinese translation.However,due to those publications orientations are mainly on promoting Chinese social,political,economic and cultural aspects and training translators for domestic job market,the available textbooks are not suitable for teaching translation in an international context because these textbooks do not reflect the local contextual knowledge.At present,the Chinese translation courses use a combination of textbooks published in China and self-compiled exercise books.In the future,it is highly necessary to compile a textbook for teaching translation in Australia that addresses Australian social,political and economic contexts and such a textbook shall reflect features of Australian English and the Chinese community in Australia.
