维和是重大非战争军事行动（Military Operation Other Than War，MOOTW），牺牲在所难免。表达死亡的说法有很多，最直白的是die，中性的说法是lose one’s life，比较委婉的常见说法是pass away或者pass on，此外还有depart，表达非正常死亡时多用perish。我们慰问遇难人员时，需要表达自己的哀痛之情。英语中常用来表示慰问和关心的句子有：

We condole with you on your misfortune.我们对您的不幸表示慰问。

We send our love and our deepest sympathy to you.我们向您致以真诚的问候和深切的慰问。

Please convey my sympathy for the families of your missing men.请向贵国失踪人员的家属致以慰问。

Please accept my deepest sympathy.请接受我最深切的慰问。
