六、小 结
厦门PX事件和占领华尔街运动是网络时代引领社会运动潮流的事件。厦门PX事件对中国的环保运动产生了重大影响，影响了后来在中国发生的一系列相似运动，成为中国环保运动的标杆。占领华尔街运动是美国社会运动的一座高峰，与20世纪的民权运动、环境运动、反战运动、妇女解放运动一样成为一个时代的运动标志，并引领了国际社会运动潮流。
中国的社会特征，比较集中的权力架构、较高的行政张力决定了厦门PX事件不能持续太长时间，运动高潮的时间尤其短促。以大规模人群在物理现场的聚集所产生强大的媒体吸引效应，带来了巨大的政治压力，迫使政府做出让步，满足群众诉求。美国社会权力分隔架构，使其有较高的缓冲阈值转移大规模人群聚集形成的政治、经济和社会压力，基于法律的对行为权利的规范和约束，又使行动者获得了一定的法律授权，得到法律的保护，使美国的社会运动持续的时间更长。
从网络舆情监控的视角来看，事件中的中国的舆情监控机构不太明晰，采取的监控手段基本是传统监控方法，来自传统媒体的报道和网页文章。美国的网络舆情监控非常明晰，而且几乎将其国内所有的安全情报机构整合在一起形成一个强大的舆情监控链，并运用其所能使用的所有监控手段、技术手段，对占领运动组织、人员、行动计划进行全方位的监控，并在条件成熟时实施精准打击。中国社会运动中的人民内部矛盾性和美国社会运动中的恐怖主义敌对矛盾性，也在一定程度上决定了监控强度和打击力度的差异。
