PACE模式的教学课例设计及说明
笔者以沪教版高二(下)牛津教材Unit 3为例子,采用PACE模式进行教学活动。Reading部分是关于人们对色彩的反应和色彩在生活中的使用。More Reading讲述不同文化的人们对色彩联想的差异。Listening部分通过听力材料了解与颜色有关的习语的意义。本节课教学活动分为四个阶段:
1.呈现(Presentation)
本节课通过呈现图片的方式,引入所要阅读的短文。教师提问激发学生与颜色有关的文化知识。
Task One:Questions and Answers.
Q1:What kind of occasion do the pictures show?
Q2:What colours are used on such occasions?
Q3:Who will wear white while who else mustn't wear white?
Q4:What are the similarities between western weddings and Chinese ones in terms of colours?
Task Two:Students are required to read a passage with some idioms.The passage is as follows.
Kate without blue blood finally tied the knot with Prince William after ten years'romance,which is a real story of Cinderella and Prince Charming.
April 29th,2011 was a red-letter day for Prince William and Kate.They killed the fatted calf to welcome guests at home and abroad,which made the cook as busy as bees.
A little bird told me that Kate was tickled pink and as proud as a peacock while William was as cool as a cucumber though he was also on cloud nine.
If my bank account had been in the black,or in other words,hadn't been in the red,I would have attended the royal wedding.It's a pity that I was as poor as a church mouse.
Now I am green with envy when they go on their honeymoon while I have to stay here telling their love story.
设计意图 在导入部分,笔者通过展示图片和问答激活学生原有的背景知识,降低了获取新知识的难度,然后以阅读文本为切入口,引出与颜色有关的习语的主题。
2.注意(Attention)
Task Three:Students are required to underline the idioms in the passage with the help of questions.
Q1:What colours are mentioned in the passage?
Q2:What animals or birds are involved in the idioms?
Q3:Are numbers or vegetables also mentioned?
设计意图 在这一过程中,教师使用提问的方法让学生关注文本中所涉及的习语表达,为下一环节的合作建构作铺垫。
3.合作建构(Co-construction)
师生都是语言结构的合作建构者。当学生将注意力转向目标语言结构后,教师需要采取措施引导学生重建已有的知识结构与新的语言结构的异同,对新的语言结构进行假设、猜测、预测或归纳。
Task Four:Students are encouraged to discuss what they are not clear of in the passage by asking and answering questions.
Sample questions:
Q1:What does blue blood mean in the first sentence?
Q2:How do you understand tie the knot with?
Q3:What's the meaning of kill the fatted calf?
Task Five:Students are invited to tell their understanding of the idioms.The teacher gives some explanations if they are not sure about some idioms.
Task Six:Students are required to match some English idioms with the Chinese versions by doing quick response in groups of four.The group who has got the most correct answers win the game.

设计意图 学生分小组讨论与颜色有关的习语,共同建构这些习语的含义,教师适时地介入讨论并给予适当的指导。在此环节,学生通过相互提问获取语言知识而非教师单向传授知识,这不仅有助于提高学生自主学习的能力,还能培养其语言交流的技巧。此外,在任务六的抢答游戏活动中,学生体现了很强的团队合作意识。
4.拓展(Extension)
在拓展环节,笔者设计了“listening and matching,running dictation,blank filling”三项任务。
Task Seven:Students listen to a lecture about colour idioms and match them with the following situations.Read the sentences below carefully,and then listen to the lecture.Complete the sentences by writing the appropriate letter in each blank.

Task Eight:Students play a game of running dictation in groups of four.The rules are as follows.
1)Each group has a sheet of paper with sentences using colour-related idioms written on it posted on the board.
2)Each member takes turns running to the board and memorizing the sentences and runs back to the group and dictates them to members who will note them down.
3)When all sentences have been dictated,the group members raise hands.
The first group that provides a perfect copy of the sentences wins.
The sentences used for running dictations are as follows.
①Peter is so honest;he would never tell even a white lie.
②He tries to see everything in black and white although he knows this is impossible.
③We just can't get ahead because of all this red tape!
④When we heard the news,it was completely out of the blue.
⑤As soon as we get the green light,we will start advertising for new staff.
⑥Do you know what are white collar,gray collar or blue collar?
⑦I am accustomed to drinking black coffee or black tea,not white coffee or green tea.
⑧The robber ran away in a flash so as not to be caught red-handed.
After the dictation,the teacher asks students to explain some idioms which are unfamiliar to them.If possible,the teacher gives some help.
Task Nine:Students are required to fill in the blanks with some colour idioms according to the context.
I was tired and①____as I walked to class.It was the first day of the final exams and I'd spent the whole weekend studying.
When I arrived for the first exam,I noticed that my friend,John,had a voice recorder.He was showing it to everyone and recording everyone's voice with it.I must say that I was②____.
I really want one to record lectures.I couldn't afford to buy a voice recorder because now I am③____.I'd been working so hard to make sure I could pass all my exams that I'd even given up my part-time job.I could start my part-time job again when the exams finished.Even then,it would be some time before I was④____.
A few weeks later,I received my results and called my parents to let them know that I had done well.They asked me to go and visit them at the weekend.When I arrived home,the whole house was quiet.I walked into the living room and suddenly everyone appeared and shouted“Surprise!”I was very frightened and turned⑤____.My parents had arranged a surprise party to celebrate my exam success!They also gave me a present!I opened the box and was⑥____when I saw what was inside—a brand new voice recorder!
Task Ten:Homework
Review the idioms and do the following translation exercises.

设计意图 拓展环节以通过语篇听力来理解巩固所建构的习语开始,然后运用“信息差”的原理来调动学生的探索欲。此任务要求每组学生全员参与,他们在跑动中记忆所读的句子并回到组内听写给组员,最先听写完所有句子的小组获胜。这一活动不仅要求学生要善于记忆、表达和倾听,还需要有速记和合作的策略。最后一项任务是回归真实的语境,是学生灵活运用习语的过程。总之,拓展活动切合主题,学生在有实用价值、有意义的环境中使用新的语言现象,使其自然而然地整合到自己已有的知识体系中。
