6.Implication for English teaching in senior high school

This research report on successful foreign language learners has a lot of implications for English teaching in senior high school.In terms of age,senior high school students are relatively mature in mind.For students in Shanghai,they have learned English for at least nine years or even longer,so there should be no negative influence on age.Sixteen to eighteen is a good time for language learning.As to intelligence,thought talents can be found in any subjects,it is an invariable truth that diligence makes up for lack of intelligence.In terms of personality,since senior high school students are in their adolescence,teenagers may be too shy to communicate with others,so there may be some barriers in communication for some students.

English teachers of senior high school should create the appropriate language learning environment for students in English class and offer a variety of activities such as Q & A,discussion,debate,and competition to arouse students'interest and passion in communication and participation.Besides,students are encouraged to speak the target language as frequently as possible and try to finish some tasks with English,which is called task-based teaching.In addition,class type should not be limited only to exercise class.More oral classes,optional courses,or English corner activities should be added to the teaching schedule so that students can have more opportunities to practice English on campus.

There is no denying that senior high school teachers have to pay attention to the results of CEE(college entrance examination),but in the daily teaching process,teachers should not focus on the score only.Moreover,during the reform of CEE nowadays,oral test has been included in the total score of English,which can be seen as a major guide telling teachers and students that dumb English has already become a thing of the past.English teachers should seize the time of the first two years to cultivate students'integrated skills of English,which will be conducive to the longterm development of senior high school students.
