1)Passive Voice
In order to win understandings and supports, politicians pay much attention to arrange sentences and try not to raise any conflicts.Passive voice is a good choice, because it's impersonal and seems more objective and persuasive. As a result, passive voice is frequently used in the English versions of political texts.
Example 3“我国社会主义现代化事业取得显著成就,改革开放迈出重大步伐,一些重点领域和关键环节的改革取得新突破。”
“Major achievements were made in the socialist modernization drive, major steps were taken in reform and opening up,breakthroughs were achieved in some key areas.”
The subjects of sentences in Chinese can be human beings as well as other things such as achievement, steps and breakthroughs mentioned in the above sentence.Besides, subjects are omitted sometimes if they are known to readers. In this case, passive voice is used.
Such a passive voice skill can also be applied to senior high school English translation,as can be seen as follows.
Example 4“如果你的演讲有良好的规划和充满热情的演绎,肯定会打动听众的。”(2019宝山区二模)
“If your presentation is well-planned and passionately given,it's sure to inspire the audience.”
In this sentence,we need to turn“have”into passive voice to make it more agreeable to western ears and at the same time more concise while clear.
