Mu’nao Zhaiwa

Mu’nao Zhaiwa

Mu’nao Zhaiwa (Mu Nao Zhai Wa in Chinese) is an oral epic of the Jingpo ethnic group, which mingles myths, legends, and poetry into a whole.

The book can be divided into seven parts with elegantly beautiful language and regular rhymes and prosodies. It records,in the form of graceful myths, the evolution of the Jingpo ethnic group from the remote times up till now.

In its long transmission and development,Mu'nao Zhaiwa forms its own rules. For instance, the song entitled“Cuckoos”as follows, expresses the eagerness and delight of the people for spring plowing when the spring comes.

Ah! Little cuckoos,up fly,(https://www.daowen.com)

To villages beneath the sky,

And tell my kinfolks now,

The spring comes for plow.
