The Chickens Taking Revenge (From the Hani Ethnic Minority Group)
一只母鸡带着三只小鸡，在树林边寻找食物。这时候突然蹿过来一只野猫，把母鸡叼走了。三只小鸡找呀找，只找到被野猫抓掉的几根毛。它们发誓，长大以后一定要替阿妈报仇。
A hen was taking three chickens with her in search of food near a forest,when suddenly a wild cat leapt up,held the hen in its mouth and ran away.The chickens looked for their mother here and there but only to find some feathers plucked by the wild cat.So they swore that they would by all means avenge their mother’s death when they grew up.
三只小鸡终于长大了，它们决心出发去报仇，沿着当初野猫逃走的方向走去。
As time went by,the three chickens grew up.Determined to take revenge,they set off in the direction where the wild cat had fled.
走到苦子林，苦子果问：“鸡阿哥鸡阿姐，这里是野猫出没的地方，你们怎么来了？”
On their way,they came into the forest of bitter fruits.A bitter fruit asked,“Chicken brother and sister,why are you here? This is the place frequented by the wild cat.”
三只小鸡把当年野猫拖走它们阿妈的事说了一遍。苦子果说：“野猫真坏，我跟你们去吧，也许能帮上点忙。”
The chickens told it how the wild cat had pulled their mother away.At this,the bitter fruit said,“How wicked the wild cat is! I’d like to go with you and perhaps I can give you a hand.”
三只小鸡很高兴，张嘴把苦子果含着，就走了。
Happily they kept the bitter fruit in the mouth and continued their way.
它们走到一条水沟边，一只螃蟹问鸡阿哥鸡阿姐，“你们跑这么远干啥来了？”小鸡们把事情一说，螃蟹很同情它们，也要跟它们一起去。小鸡就让它用钳子夹住自己的尾巴，带着走了。
When they came to the side of a ditch,a crab asked,“Chicken brother and sister，why are you here from afar?”The chickens told it what had happened to their mother.Sympathetic with them,the crab also wanted to go with them.Then the chickens took it along by letting the crab clutch the tail.
它们走到一片庄稼地，地里的庄稼都收打干净了，只剩下一只冬瓜躺在那儿。冬瓜问：“鸡阿哥鸡阿姐，你们到这儿来干啥？难道要给野猫当菜吃？”小鸡们把事情一说，冬瓜老早就恨死野猫了，说它绊烂了自己的好多阿弟阿妹，也想去出一口气。小鸡们可高兴哩，它们用藤子一头拴住冬瓜，一头拴着腿，就拖着进了树林子。
They walked on and on until they reached a patch of crops.All the crops had been collected and thrashed,with a white gourd lying there alone.The white gourd asked,“Chicken brother and sister,why are you here? Aren’t you the food for the wild cat?”When the three chickens told the whole story,the white gourd said that it had hated the wild cat for a long time because it had stumbled and trampled many of its brothers and sisters.It wanted to vent its anger as well.So pleased were the three chickens that they dragged it into the forest by tying one end of the vine to the white gourd and the other end to a leg.
树林里有一窝蜜蜂，小鸡们说了这事，蜂王就让它的蜜蜂给小鸡带路。(https://www.daowen.com)
In the forest there was a swarm of bees to which they told the whole story.Then the queen bee bid her honeybees to lead the way for them.
半路上，一堆牛屎又挡住了它们的路，它们一说话，牛屎也要跟着去出口恶气，就又跟着去了。
On the half way,a heap of ox dung held them back.When they told it what the matter was,the dung also felt like following them to vent its anger.And the chickens consented.
野猫住在一个小竹楼里，这会儿正在火塘边睡觉呢。小鸡和它们的伙伴们到了楼底下，一商量，牛屎守在竹楼底下，冬瓜守在楼梯口，蜜蜂留在门槛上，螃蟹爬进了水缸，苦子果一蹦一跳地，就蹿进了火塘。小鸡看见伙伴们都守住了要紧的地方，胆子更大了，就把野猫围在中间，大声说：“喂，你该醒啦！”
When the chickens and their companions arrived at the wild cat’s small bamboo building,the wild cat was sleeping by the hearth.Under the building,they plotted that the ox dung kept watch under the building,the white gourd guarded the staircase,the bee stayed on the doorsill,the crab crept into the water urn and the bitter fruit hopped into the hearth.Seeing that their companions were guarding the important places,the chickens became even bolder and they besieged the wild cat,crying loudly,“Hey! Wake up!”
野猫睁开眼，见边上三只小鸡，眨巴着眼说：“你们谁让我先吃？”
The wild cat opened its eyes and saw three chickens around it.Winking its eyes,it said,“Which one of you shall I eat first?”
三只小鸡摆出决斗的架势，气呼呼地说：“去年你吃了我们的阿妈，今天我们要报仇啦！”
The chickens were ready for a duel,saying in a rage,“Last year,you ate our mother.Today we’ll take revenge!”
野猫一吓，伸长脖子强辩：“不是我，不是我……”它正想叼上一只小鸡就赶紧逃走，这时候，蹿进火塘里的苦子果“噼啪”一声响，炸开来了，炭火喷得野猫一脸。野猫受不了了，急忙跳进水缸，正好被螃蟹死死地夹住了腿。野猫七蹬八蹬，好不容易跳出水缸，逃到门口，一群蜜蜂又夹头夹脑蜇了上去。野猫一阵慌乱，从楼梯上“咕噜噜”滚下来，一头跌在牛屎上，嘴里眼里全糊满了牛屎，野猫正在往外抠牛屎，楼梯口的大冬瓜又滚了下来，正好砸在它的头上，就把它砸死在牛屎堆里了。
Startled at these words,the wild cat strained its neck and tried to deny,“It was not me,not…”The wild cat was about to hold a chicken in its mouth and fled,when the bitter fruit in the hearth cracked open and the fire sprayed over the face of the wild cat.In unbearable pain,it jumped into the water urn and its legs were clutched tightly by the crab.It struggled hard,jumped out of the urn with great efforts and escaped to the door.There a swarm of bees stung it.Panic-stricken,the wild cat rolled down the staircase and bumped into the dung that filled its eyes and mouth.It was pushing aside the dung,when the white gourd rolled down the staircase and neatly smashed the wild cat’s head.Therefore,the wild cat was smashed to death in the ox dung.
据说，从此以后，野猫再也不敢去叼母鸡了。
It is said that from then on,the wild cat dare not snatch the hens any longer.
