The Story of Morin Khuur

The Story of Morin Khuur (Ma Tou Qin in Chinese) is a famous Mongolian folk legend.

A long time ago,there was a shepherd boy named Suhe in Chahar grassland,who had a little white horse.The little white horse grew into a beautiful horse with the help of Suhe.The white horse and Suhe became good friends.

In spring,the lord held a horseracing meeting and promised to reward the first rider with a flock of sheep.(https://www.daowen.com)

Suhe and his beautiful white horse took part in the horse race and won the first prize.

The lord was very fond of the beautiful white horse,and said pertly,“here are three ingots for you,but leave me the white horse!”Suhe said angrily,“I’m not here to sell my horse!”Suhe was stunned by the servicemen of the lord,and his white horse was robbed.However,as soon as the lord rode on the white horse,he was thrown off.The white horse broke loose from the reins and galloped away.The lord ordered his servicemen to shoot died the white horse with poisoned arrows.

Suhe cried sadly.At night,he dreamed that the white horse said to him,“You can make a harp out of my tendons and bones,so I can stay with you forever.”With the guidance of the white horse,Suhe made a beautiful harp.The harp pole was made from its bone,carved the head of a horse at the top.The tendons to were used make the strings,and the tail to make the bow.From then on,the wonderful sound of Morin Khuur spread all over the prairie.
