Le E Te Yi
Le E Te Yi (Le E Te Yi in Chinese) is an epic of creation of Yi ethnic minority widely spread in Liangshan region of Sichuan Province in China,compiled and translated into Chinese by Feng Yuanwei.
Le E Te Yi,a transliteration from the native Yi language,means a legendary historical book.Composed of five-syllable verses in each line with a mix of threesyllable or seven-syllable ones in some lines,this epic is catchy and rhythmic.And the Yi people always read it on important occasions.
With the record of some myths of creation by ancient Yi people such as the creation of the World by Pan Gu,calling of the sun and the moon and flooding of the world,the whole epic is rich both in imagination and content.A approval of the contributions of our ancestors,the epic features vivid images of the gods which is a reflection of the life of ancient people.
Here is an excerpt.
The history of the world in ancient times
When the Earth hasn’t been separated with the Heaven,
Everything including stars,grasses and clouds haven’t make their first bloom,
Even will the wind hardly come,
The ground actually is in pitch gloom.(https://www.daowen.com)
No clouds is between the Earth and the Heaven,
There is no world.
There is no wind,
Clouds are not like clouds,
Which can not scattered all the way.
It’s not dark,
Nor bright;
Up and down,
Everywhere was not clear.
