Afanti

Afanti (A Fan Ti in Chinese) is a typical figure in the legends of Uyghur ethnic group.“Afanti”means a teacher or a person with knowledge.His story is widely spread.One story goes like this.

Afanti joked with the king’s housekeeper,“You will die in two days.”Sure enough,two days later he fell dead from horse back.

Hearing the news,the king ordered Afanti into his palace,and asked,“Afant,my housekeeper died because of you.Do you plead guilty?”

“Since you know when the housekeeper will die.Do you know when you are going to die? ”asked the king.

Afanti,immediately understanding the king’s intention,said to the king,“Last night,I saw my comet,which implied that I would die two days before you.”

Hearing of his own death time,the king immediately cancelled the order of Afanti’s death,and secretly blessed him a long life.
