田螺姑娘（朝鲜族）
The Snail-Girl (From the Korea Ethnic Minority Group)
有个年轻农夫，没有父母兄妹，独自一人在深山里搭个草棚，开荒种地过日子。
There was once a young farmer without parents,brothers or sisters.He lived in a thatched shed alone in the remote mountains and earned his living by opening up the wasteland.
—天，他种地的时候发现一个会唱歌的田螺，就捡回来养在大水缸里。从此以后，他每天下地干活回来，大锅小锅冒着热气，香喷喷的饭菜早就给他做好了。农夫屋里屋外找了一通，没见个人影儿，谁给他做饭的呢？他忽然想到了会唱歌的田螺，就想要弄个明白。
One day,as he was working in the field,he found a snail that could sing songs.He picked it up,took it home and kept it in a big water-jar.Since then,delicious meals would be ready for him when he came home from work each day.Who did all this for him? The farmer searched the house but found no one.All of a sudden，he thought of the snail that could sing songs and he wanted to know what it was all about.
那天，他扛起镢头下地，没等太阳下山就溜了回来，蹲在后窗口，扒着窗缝儿，盯着那口水缸看。
So on another day,he carried the pickaxe on his shoulder and went out to work.However,he slipped back before sunset.Then he squatted behind the back window and stared at the jar through the window gap.
不一会儿工夫，水缸里咕噜噜冒起一串水泡，钻出一个十七八岁的大姑娘，粉红上衣蓝裙子，漂亮得像只花瑚蝶。姑娘手捧田螺壳，说声出米就出米，说声出肉就出肉；米一下锅就成了饭，肉一下锅就成了好菜，好快好快。
After a short while,the jar bubbled and a girl sprang out of it.Wearing a pink shirt and a blue skirt,she was as beautiful as a colorful butterfly.With a snailshell in her hands,she said“Rice out”，and rice came out.So did the meat when she said“Meat out”to the snail-shell.No sooner had the rice and the meat been put into the pot than the meal was ready.It was done so fast.
姑娘做好了饭菜，把厨房收拾干净，正要钻进水缸去，农夫一下子冲进来把她抱住了。一问，才知道她是龙宫里的田螺姑娘，见他忠厚老实，特地来侍候他的。农夫高兴极了，一定要田螺姑娘嫁给他做老婆，田螺姑娘红着脸点了点头。
After she cooked the meal and cleaned the kitchen,the girl was about to go into the jar when the farmer rushed in and held her in his arms.He learnt that she was the snail-girl in the Dragon Palace.Finding him honest and good-natured,she came to take care of him.When he heard the whole story,the farmer was very glad and wanted her to be his wife.With a blushing face,the snail-girl nodded her head.
田螺姑娘冲着田螺壳说：“出房！”眼前顿时冒出三间青砖青瓦的新房。他们当晚就成了亲。从此以后，男耕女织，日子过得比蜜还甜。
Then she said“House out!”to the snail-shell and a new house with three rooms of brick and tile stood before them at once.They got married that night and lived in happiness.
结婚以后，农夫一步也离不开田螺姑娘，干起活来也没心思了。田螺姑娘扯下一块白绸，拿木炭在上面画了幅像，活脱脱像田螺姑娘。从此以后，农夫一下地就带着那幅画，越看越爱看。
After the marriage,the farmer could not bear to leave the snail-girl and was no longer concentrated on his farm-work.So the snail-girl tore a piece of white silk and drew a portrait of her on it with charcoal.From then on,every time he went to work,the farmer would take the portrait with him.The more he looked at it,the more he loved it.
这一来，又出事了。有一天，农夫正在地里看这幅画像，让国王的猎手们发现了，伸手就抢，抢回去献给了国王。
However,trouble was on the way.One day when the farmer was looking at the portrait in the fields,the king’s hunters saw it,grabbed it and presented it to the king.
国王见了这张画像，着了迷，就想出个坏主意来，要霸占田螺姑娘。他派人去对农夫说，要跟他比赛下围棋，农夫赢了，准他跟妻子过日子；农夫输了，就得把妻子献给国王。
The king was so enchanted with the picture that he plotted to possess the snail-girl.He summoned one of his men to inform the farmer that the king would like to have a chess contest with him.If he won the game,the king would permit him to live with his wife;if he lost the game,he must hand over his wife to the king.
农夫愁死了，我又不会下围棋，这可怎么办？田螺姑娘知道了，说这有啥好愁的，把田螺壳带上，它会教你怎么做的。
The farmer was very distressed because he could not play chess.What could he do? When the snail-girl learned about it,she said that there was nothing to worry about.“Take the snail-shell with you and I’ll tell you what to do，”said she.(https://www.daowen.com)
那天，农夫带上了田螺壳，去跟国王对阵下围棋。只要农夫一举起棋子，耳边就响起田螺姑娘的声音：“往上！往下！向左！向右！”这声音只有农夫听得见，国王一点也听不到。不用说，农夫很快就赢了。
On the appointed day,the farmer took the snail-shell with him and played chess with the king.Each time he took a chess piece,the farmer would hear the voice of the snail-girl,“Move up! Move down! Move left! Move right!”Her voice was only loud enough for the farmer to hear while the king could not hear it at all.The farmer won the game in no time.
国王又要跟农夫赛马。国王有匹千里马，天底下还没有一匹马跑得过这匹千里马的呢。田螺姑娘却对农夫说：“你不用愁，先去睡吧，我自有办法！”
Having lost the game,the king wanted to have a horserace with the farmer because the king possessed an excellent steed with no match in the world.The snail-girl told her husband,“Don’t worry.Go to bed now and I know what to do!”
第二天一早，田螺姑娘对田螺壳说：“出万里马！”果然从田螺壳里“啪嚓”一声掉下一匹手指盖大小的马儿来，眼看它越变越大，变成了万里马。农夫骑上万里马去跟国王比赛，国王又输了。
Early the next morning,the snail-girl said to the snail-shell,“A super-steed horse out!”And a steed of fingernail size fell off the shell.It grew bigger and bigger and turned into a super-steed.Then the farmer rode on the super-steed to race with the king.Again the king lost the race.
国王还是不甘心，要跟农夫比武打仗。农夫想，我一个人怎么打得过国王的千军万马？他愁死了。
However，the king did not give up.He challenged to fight with the farmer on the battlefield.Thinking that he could hardly win over the king’s men，the farmer was worried.
田螺姑娘一问，又拿出田螺壳来，说声：“出宝瓶！”当场就出来三个宝瓶，一个绿的，一个黄的，一个红的。田螺姑娘教给农夫怎么用法，农夫就上了场。
On hearing about it,the snail-girl took out the snail-shell and said“Treasure bottles out!”At once three treasure bottles turned up.One was green,one was yellow and the other was red.Then she told her husband how to use them and he went to the battlefield.
比武开始，国王挺着长枪，拍着马，向农夫杀来，后边跟着他的千军万马。
When it came to the fight,the king leveled his spear,whipped his horse and charged toward the farmer,followed by his men.
农夫掉转马头就往回逃跑，他跑上一个大山包，掏出绿瓶，拧开盖儿朝地上一扔，就“哗啦啦”发起了大水，把国王的兵马淹死了一多半。这地方以后就成了鸭绿江。
Turning his horse around,the farmer retreated.When he arrived at a hill,he took out the green bottle,opened the lid and threw it on the ground.Straight away a flood appeared and drowned most of the king’s men.Later,this place became the Yalu River.
国王带着剩下的兵马又杀过来了，农夫再扔出去一个黄瓶子。瓶子里掉下来的黄米粒子全变成了身披黄金甲的大将，举刀就砍，把国王的兵马统统给杀死了。
The king led the remaining men and charged towards the fanner once more.This time,the farmer threw out the yellow bottle.The yellow particles dropping from the bottle all changed into armoured warriors who killed all the king’s men.
国王骑的是千里马，没被杀死，他又追了过来。农夫把最后一个红瓶掏开来，拧开盖儿，朝国王身上一扔，喷出一股火来，就把国王活活烧死了。
Riding on his excellent steed,the king escaped and chased after the farmer again.The farmer took out the red bottle,opened the lid and threw it at the king.From the bottle,fire spurted out and the king was burned alive.
老百姓拍手叫好，一致拥护农夫当国王，田螺姑娘当王后。从此以后，天下的老百姓都过上了太平日子。
The people applauded and upheld the farmer as their king with the snailgirl as their queen.Thereafter,all the people in the world lived in peace and prosperity,
