Song of the High Imperial（Gao Huang Ge in Chinese）is a long piece of narrative folk song of the She ethnic minority.
Song of the High Imperial,also named as Song of Emperor Dragon,Song of King Dragon,or Song of King Pan Gu,is a piece of epic with a style of sevencharacter-in-one-line.The epic,rich in content and neat in format,is widely spread in the She nationality community.
Song of the High Imperial tells a mythological story of the heroic deeds of King Pan Hu,the ancestor of the She nationality.This seven-character epic consists of three parts.The first part describes the myths and legends concerning the ancestors of the She ethnic group.The second part tells the story of King Long Qi,one descendant of King Pan Hu,in which the enemy coming situation,King Long Qi fought and won the victory and he got married to the princess,the daughter of the Emperor Gao Xin,whom had born three sons and one daughter,ie.the Pan,the Lan,the Lei,and the Zhong,which later became the four ethnic Sub-groups of She ethnicity nowadays.The third part presents a large number of etiquette norms,ethnic customs among the She ethnicity,and so on.
Song of the High Imperial enjoys a high reputation among the people of She ethnicity.It shows the history of the She ethnicity,praising the achievements of the ancestors of the She ethnicity,and presenting the wisdom and bravery of the people of She ethnicity.The epic contains a large number of myths,idioms,and legends,which are of great use for researching the history of the She ethnicity.
