Song of King Pan
Song of King Pan (Pan Wang Ge in Chinese) is one of classical folk songs of the Yao ethnic minority,translated into Chinese and compiled by Li Mo,Lin Bingxi,Pan Caiwan and Fang Xianqing,etc.
The Yao people have a tradition of worshipping King Pan,in which Song of King Pan is sung during the worshipping time.There are more than 700 pieces of poems in Song of King Pan,with more than 3,000 lines.
Rich in contents,Song of King Pan mainly includes the following six aspects:the eternal creation myth,the myths and legends of the Yao ancestors,the tales of agricultural production,the story of love,the religious beliefs worshipping to the gods,and the humor in the daily life.
Song of King Pan,a classical folk song of the Yao nationality with unique style,is the expression of admiration of King Pan,the ancestor of the Yao nationality,and the people’s hope for a better life as well.While promoting the ritual culture,it also preserves the Yao’s original folk historical materials,which can be used as a reference for later generations to study the related history of the Yao ethnic group.
