印度人口总数为13.24亿人（2021年），仅次于中国，位居世界第二，人口密度444.3人/平方千米。

印度号称民族、宗教和语言的博物馆。印度有100多个民族，其中印度斯坦族人数最多，约占全国人口的46.3％；其他较大的民族为泰卢固族、马拉提族、泰米尔族、孟加拉族等。官方语言为印地语和英语。
