新西兰位于太平洋西南部，西隔塔斯曼海与澳大利亚相望，相距1600千米，由北岛、南岛及一些小岛组成，面积约27万平方千米。

全国共分为11个大区，设有67个地区行政机构（其中包括13个市政厅、53个区议会和查塔姆群岛议会）。主要城市有惠灵顿、奥克兰、克赖斯特彻奇（基督城）、哈密尔顿、达尼丁等。
