A: Passage
Script:
Halloween is an annual celebration on October 31. Today we would like to share the legend of Jack- O’-Lantern. The Irish brought Jack- O’-Lantern to America. Jack was a legendary, stingy drunkard. He tricked the Devil into climbing an apple tree for a juicy apple and then quickly cut the sign of the cross into the tree trunk, preventing the Devil from coming down. Jack made the Devil swear that he wouldn’t come after his soul in any way. The Devil promised. However, this did not prevent Jack from dying. When he arrived at the gates of heaven, he was turned away because he was a stingy, mean drunk. Desperate for a resting place, he went to the Devil. The Devil, true to his word,turned him away. “But where can I go?” pleaded Jack. “Back where you come from,” spoke the Devil.The night was dark and the way was long, and the Devil tossed him a lighted coal from the fire of hell.Jack, who was eating a turnip at the time, placed the coal inside and used it to light his way. Since that day, he has traveled the world over with his Jack- O’-Lantern in search of a place to rest. After that,Irish children carved out turnips and potatoes to light the night on Halloween. When the Irish came to America in great numbers in the 1840s, they found that using a pumpkin can make an even better lantern, and so this “American” tradition came to be.
万圣节是每年10月31日庆祝的一个活动。今天，我们来分享“杰克的灯笼”的传说。爱尔兰人把“杰克的灯笼”带到了美国。杰克是个传奇的吝啬鬼。他骗魔鬼撒旦爬上苹果树去摘一个多汁的苹果，然后迅速在树干上刻了一个十字架，让撒旦不敢下来。杰克让魔鬼撒旦发誓以后不会以任何方式来索取他的灵魂。魔鬼答应了。然而，这并没有阻止杰克的死亡。当他到达天堂的大门时，天堂拒绝他进入，因为他是一个吝啬的刻薄鬼。他渴望得到一个安身的地方，他去找了撒旦。但是魔鬼撒旦遵守诺言，也拒绝他进入地狱之门。“但我能去哪里呢？”杰克恳求道。 “哪里来的你就回到哪里去吧，”魔鬼说道。夜很黑，路很长，撒旦从地狱的火堆里给他扔了一块点燃的煤。杰克当时正在吃萝卜，他就把煤放在萝卜里面，用它来照路。从那一天起，他就提着灯四处游荡，寻找一个休息的地方。此后,爱尔兰孩子们在万圣节前夜用萝卜和土豆来雕刻出杰克灯笼来照亮夜晚。当爱尔兰人在19世纪40年代大量来到美国时，他们发现用一个南瓜能做出更好的灯笼，至此这个“美国人的”传统节日就形成了。

Chinese President Xi Jinping awarded four persons the national medal and honorary title for their outstanding contribution to fighting the COVID-19 epidemic.
Xi’s Presidential order came after the Standing Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress voted at the 21st session to adopt a decision to award the national medal and honorary title to the four famous specialists. The Medal of the Republic was conferred on well-known respiratory disease expert Zhong Nanshan. The national honorary title, “the People’s Hero”, was conferred on Zhang Boli, a traditional Chinese medicine expert who presided over the research of the COVID-19 treatment scheme combining traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine. Zhang Dingyu, head of Wuhan’s designated coronavirus-treating Jinyintan Hospital, and Chen Wei, a military medical scientist who made major achievements in COVID-19-related basic research and development of vaccine and protective medicine.
In the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, many exemplary individuals have emerged. The decision was made to commend people who have made outstanding contribution in the fight, and carry forward their loyalty and dedication and other noble qualities. Presenting to these people the nation’s top honor aims to fully demonstrate the Chinese people’s extraordinary courage, and pull people together for the great cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics and achieving the first centenary goal.

习近平主席令是根据十三届全国人大常委会第二十一次会议表决通过的决定，授予四位著名专家全国奖章和荣誉称号。“共和国勋章”授予知名呼吸道传染病专家钟南山。“人民英雄”国家荣誉称号分别授予中医专家张伯礼，他主持研究制定了中西医结合救治方案；武汉金银潭定点新冠病毒治疗医院院长张定宇和在新冠肺炎相关疫苗和保护医学基础研究与研发方面取得重大成就的军事医学科学家陈薇。
