MP:Nasdaq nears rival bid for NYSE.According to Reuters,Nasdaq OMX Group Inc(NDAQ.O)is closer to making a counter-bid for NYSE Euronext(NYX.N),a source familiar with the situation said,a move that would challenge the Big Board's blockbuster deal with Deutsche Boerse(DB1Gn.DE)by merging two of Wall Street's fiercest rivals.Under the offer being contemplated, the Nasdaq Stock Market parent would finance the transaction with up to$5 billion in debt and sell NYSE Euronext's Liffe derivatives business to Intercontinental Exchange Inc(ICE.N),the source said on Monday. Now,let's contact the stock market commentator HHH from New York.Hello,Ms.HHH,pleade!
【On-line broadcast comments & discussion from Sound-booth】
HHH:Yes,MP.An offer could come as early as this week, the source said.Bringing Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange parents together would create a stock-trading powerhouse in the United States and Europe that would also dominate the business of listing U.S.public companies, and dwarf other U.S.options markets. If successful, such a counter-offer would redraw the global exchange map and thwart yet another merger plan by Germany's Deutsche Boerse. It would be a bold move by Nasdaq Chief Executive Robert Greifeld, who has a mixed deal-making record.
MP:ICE,an Atlanta-based futures specialist, would meanwhile nab London's Liffe platform,it is a profitable gem that would give CEO Jeffrey Sprecher an interest-rate business that eluded him when ICE's bid for the Chicago Board Options Exchange failed four years ago.
HHH:Any bid would follow weeks of speculation that Nasdaq-seen as the odd man out of a global mergers frenzy among exchanges-would jump into the fray.
But with the deals driven largely by a need to diversify and ramp up profitable derivatives trading, such a move by Nasdaq to expand in its core,low-margin,stock-trading business could raise questions for shareholders.
MP:Sang Lee works as a managing partner specializing in market structure at Boston consultancy Aite Group, said of a possible Nasdaq-NYSE tie-up,[quote]would be shocked if this happened,if the game is to create a viable,long-term business that can compete globally, doing something like this is probably a step backward,”[the quote is over].
HHH:Nasdaq,NYSE,and Deutsche Boerse declined to comment.ICE was not immediately available for comment. The source declined to be named because the talks are not public.A source familiar with the situation told Reuters last month that Nasdaq was exploring options that include teaming up with a partner like ICE on a rival bid for NYSE.
MP:Sure. There is a relatively steep 250 million Euro($347.5 million)termination fee on Deutsche Boerse's friendly$10.2billion offer for NYSE Euronext, which the companies unveiled February 15 and expect to close this year with shareholder approval. Many thanks,Ms.HHH.
HHH.You are welcome.
【On-line broadcast reading in Studio】
MP:The news on Monday lifted NYSE's share price as investors weighed the prospects of a possible bidding war, which last erupted in the exchange industry between ICE and Chicago derivatives giant CME Group Inc(CME.O)in the 2007 battle to buy CBOT.Richard Gates works as a portfolio manager of TFS Market Neutral Fund, which has about$1.4 billion in assets, said,[quote]“When you see possible bidding wars there's a reason for it,and exchanges have been making piles of money from the high-frequency traders”[the quote is over].

C-9:LONDON—Greece was the big winner in markets after the European Union agreed to a broad package of measures to tackle the debt crisis that has for over a year threatened the existence of the euro currency.Over the weekend,Eurozone leaders increased the size of the bailout fund and revealed it can be used to buy bonds directly from governments in exceptional circumstances, but only if they agree to further austerity measures. They also eased the bailout terms for Greece, significantly brightening its financial outlook.Something reports from BBC-4.
【Video-clip with Voice-over】
The deal took markets by surprise, especially as German Chancellor Angela Merkel had been sounding an increasingly strident tone against paying up for profligate governments.Though analysts said the deal doesn't mean the crisis has come to an end—the governments in the so-called“periphery”have years and years of austerity ahead of them—the hope in the markets is that the EU is better prepared to deal with another debt crisis flare-up.

Breathing of Broadcast Hardnews in English[Financial News]
Long sentence does mean long breathing.Except for the lead in part of the copy, the first sentence one presentes could be an extremely long one in Financial News. For instance, there was one sentence consisting of 32 words free of coma, plus two Japanese names in one training copy. When the trainees were preparing, they were not carefully adding slashes to places necessary to mark inhaling obviously. But when the sentence came to the autocue, they would feel it was totally different from the one they just read on the paper script! It was separated into so many lines, and they could clearly felt themselves sweating with mind blanked in front of the numbers and columes.
There was no time for them to stop and tell which part hides their slashes, they might just take a deep breath and read it from beginning to the end without any inhaling. As they were finally able to breathe, they were really scared and unnerved, but at that very moment, they could feel as if they had sensed something. They just kept on announcing and after several“easier”sentences in terms of breathing, they could found out there's a sort of flow or rhythm that enabled them to pause properly.
And one more thing they could found about breathing earlier is the terrific power of“inhale by nose”.After tried for several times, either use nose or mouth to breath, waiting to see the difference through the video played later. And they could found that not only from the scene-breathing by nose seems much nicer, but also from the vocal effect. When they used mouth to breathe, air would flow out fast directly through mouth as soon as they began to read.On the contrary, using nose to inhale helped make their voices lower and the breath longer.
Mood of Broadcast Hardnews in English[Financial News]
As soon as hearing that their training session was the section of Finance News, the trainees'first response was“tragic”,for both their feelings and the financial market were still not matched yet.Considering the financial crisis, they thought the primary emotion should be serious and impartial yet a little bit concerned, while the detailed emotion should depend on the material. In fact,it was correct to hold this broadcast mood then.
At first, they should analyse the contents in order. The first three pieces of news the first anchor got were about‘the decrease in Nikkei’,“the utility's credit default”and“the dollar had touched a low”.For this part, the trainee was aware that the presenter shouldn't smile, and ought to stay in a calm, clear tone with a slight sense of severity for this piece.
Here the degree of severity must be precisely controlled. If the anchor showed over-tenseness,it would possibly cause panic in the society. The latter two pieces were about“an oncoming offer of a stock-trading powerhouse”and“the lift in Nasdaq share prices”.For this part, the anchor could be a little more relaxed with a mild smile.Well as the trainee had planned,he could never have imagined that he couldn't even control his emotion when he was in front of the camera.
Sensegroup of Broadcast Hardnews in English[Financial News]
The part of the sense-group depends largely on“sense”when we present Finance News in English since this kind of news covers too many numbers and conditional analysis. When Finance News announcers or anchors felt that the very meaning ends,or turned to a descending or lift, they should stop then kept on.There might be some rules we can conclude, like one should pause after a simple clause, and when it comes to time and figures, one should pause to show emphasis.
However,it does not apply to every condition.Take one sentence for example,“...less than a yen from the record low of 79.75 yen touched in 1995 on trading platform. Here this clause is a little bit long, end there are 3 places to emphasize-yen,79.75,1995.That being so,the best way to announce it is to pause after“record”,“1995”.And all the pauses should not include inhaling. But it might be not so effective when it really comes to announcing, since you are left no time.
Thus, the best way to distinguish sense groups is to do more reading to foster“sense”.As we are speaking Chinese, seldom will we think about clause or pause, because we can feel the language flow instinctively.Similarly,if one could announce while understanding, the sense group will be clear and plain.
Teamwork of Broadcast Hardnews in English[Financial News]
For the EBA trainees,we can really tell whether they were unfortunate or just lucky enough to experience every unexpected cooperative scenes. In particular, for the Finance News in English team. When it was one group's turn to announce the Finance News in English, the autocue did not work as they expected,so the announcer had to read the copy. But the problem was one of the announcers didn't have any paper scripts and all the scripts were in another announcer's hands.Being extremely worried by announcing on live, they couldn't think of anything but grasp the copy from the middle of the desk.As they watched the training video later, they learned that fact finally that every small action on camera could be magnified.
In fact, for avoiding this kind of embarrassing moment, the announcer without paper scripts could have talked about some extensive things about the financial phenomena during the day,and waited until the material was handed to him/her.When one was on line with the correspondent on-spot,she/he couldn't find her/his line to report. There was a blank for several seconds, and the announcer didn't know what to do,just asked,“Hello,XXX,are you ready?”Then again, several seconds'blank. And this moment, you should talk with the correspondent in a leisure tone about the finance.Anyway, just don't let the scene blank out.
