4.2.2 Quality Tolerance质量公差

For some categories of products,it’s difficult or impossible for the quality delivered to be exactly the same as the quality contracted. This may be due to a number of reasons, such as fair wear and tear, inevitable loss in transit, limitations in the precision of the measuring tool used for manufacturing the product,or just due to the nature of the goods. For example,a watch may not go 100% right. Therefore,a quality tolerance is also needed for certain categories of goods to prevent the importer from rejecting the goods or making a claim on pretext of a minor non-conformity of quality to the contract.

Quality tolerance is the allowed variance or departure from a specification or standard that is considered not affecting the proper functioning of the product.Generally, the tolerance is stipulated in terms of an allowed range or limit for the key indicators of quality, which could be a recognized one in the industry or,should no such recognized tolerance exist,be agreed-upon by both parties in the contract. For example,a specification for a certain type of screw may be:diameter 0.8 cm,tolerance ±0.001 mm.In case the agreed-upon tolerance is recognized internationally or in the industry, the contract price shall not adjust if variance of the quality falls within the recognized range. The tolerance is often stipulated as an allowed latitude of specific quality indicators, such as in the following cases:

(1)specification of wool:moisture 5%~10%

(2)specifications of wheat:broken grains(Max)25%,admixture(Max)0.5%,moisture(Max)15%

(3)specification of eiderdown coat:eiderdown 80%,1% more or less.
