10.3.3 Classification of Cheques支票的分类
A cheque can be classified based on various criteria.Below are some important classifications based on different criteria:
♦Cheque payable to order & cheque payable to bearer记名支票和来人支票
A cheque payable to order must be signed by the specified person when it is cashed, while a cheque payable to bearer can be cashedwithout signature of the holder and transferring of the cheque requires no endorsement.
♦Crossed cheque & open(uncrossed)cheque 划线支票和开放支票
Most cheques bear two bold parallel lines on it,which are called“the crossing”.A crossing is an instruction to the paying bank that the money should be paid only to another bank that functions as agent of the payee, instead of straight to the payee. Therefore,a crossing restricts payment of a cheque.
♦Certified cheque & uncertified cheque 已认证支票和未认证支票
A “certified”stamp on a cheque indicates that the paying bank has collected the corresponding amount of money from the drawer. So,a certified cheque will not be dishonored.Without the stamp,a cheque would be uncertified, meaning that the paying bank hasn’t collected the money from the drawer. Therefore,an uncertified cheque will be dishonored by the paying bank.It is a bounced or bad cheque.
