6.5.1 Container Sizes and Shipping Terminologies集装...
Before you ship goods via containers, you must know the common sizes of containers and important terminologies in container shipping(see Figure 6-1 and Table 6-2).
♦Container sizes and dimensions:
Figure 6-1 Common Sizes of Containers
Table 6-2 Common Container Sizes and Dimensions
♦Container Yard(CY):The area adjacent to the vessel berth where containers are delivered to or received from the vessel,or delivered to and received from inland carriers.
♦Container Freight Station(CFS):A facility at which LCL cargoes are received from merchants for loading into containers or at which LCL cargoes are unloaded from containers and delivered to merchants.
♦DOOR:The consignor or consignee’s warehouse where the cargo is loaded or unloaded.
♦Full Container Load(FCL):A shipment that fills up a container’s allowable maximum weight or measurement. In practice, however,FCL in ocean shipping does not always mean packing a container to its full payload or full capacity. It means that the entire container load is bound for one consignee.
♦Less than Container Load(LCL):A shipment that is not large enough to fill up a standard cargo container so that it has to share a container with other consignors’ cargoes which are bound for the same destination.
♦Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit(TEU):A measure of the cargo capacity of container ships or container terminals based on the size of a standardized container of 20 feet in length.
