同素连用是一种奇特的言语表达方式（有人称之为同素构造），具有鲜明的修辞色彩。由于同一单位的连续运用，使言语表达呈现出异乎寻常的面貌，所以我们认为它是一种变异性的言语表达手段。《武林外传》可谓把同素连用发挥到了极致，例如：
