Ⅱ.Pu’er Tea Dance

Ⅱ.Pu’er Tea Dance

Tea songs are not in one single form, which can usually be produced and presented in combination with tea dances, tea lanterns and other forms. There are also some differences in tea dance in different regions. Many movements in tea dance performances are created based on tea production and tea songs.

Under the influence of folk lanterns and other artistic forms, tea picking songs are further developed into tea picking lanterns, also known as“tea tones”or“tea basket tones”, which take tea affairs as the content, use paper fans, tea baskets, etc.as props, and singing and dancing are performed at the same time.At that time, tea farmers in Yunnan often performed impromptu songs and dances in the form of tea picking tones in order to entertain merchants from all over the country.

For example, when the Yi people sing songs, after the guests sit down, the village or family hosting the songs, with the company of gong and suona horn music, respectfully carry tea plates or wine plates in their hands, dance and walk, offer Pu’er tea or wine to each guest one by one, and then dance and retreat.
