Subcutaneous tissue,also known as the subcutaneous fat layer,is located below the dermis.It is connected to the muscle membrane and other tissues underneath.It consists of loose connective tissue and fat leaflets.The connective tissue wraps the fat leaflets to form the leaflet interval.The subcutaneous tissue contains blood vessels,lymphatic vessels,nerves,small glands,and apocrine sweat glands.Its thickness varies with location,gender,and nutritional status.It is thicker at the hip and abdomen,while thinner at the nose and sternum.The subcutaneous tissue has the functions of providing skin elasticity,participating in fat metabolism and sugar metabolism,storing energy,and endocrine.(https://www.daowen.com)
