10.4 Challenges and Perspectives

This chapter mainly introduces the recent development of e-skin,including material selection,structural design and optimization,types and applications of e-skin devices,etc.E-skin can not only simulate the basic functions of human skin,and realize the sensing of mechanical stimuli such as pressure,strain,and friction,but also can be used for chemical and electrical sensing.Through multi-functional integration,the e-skin can realize functions such as human health monitoring and disease diagnosis,and can be applied to prosthetic skin,robots and other fields(see extended reading 5).

Although great progress has been made in the field of e-skin devices in recent years,there are still some problems and challenges in this field.For example,the conductors,semiconductors,dielectric materials,and base materials in e-skin devices have good stretchability,biocompatibility,and self-healing properties.However,the interface between the materials still has problems such as high contact resistance.It is necessary to further optimize the properties of the material interface to improve the performance of the device.In addition,the e-skin devices still have low measurement stability and high sensing hysteresis,which seriously affects the stability of the devices quality and measurement sensitivity.Therefore,further improvements are needed in terms of material properties and device structure design.Moreover,the current preparation process and multifunctional integration process of large-area skin devices are not yet mature.There are disadvantages such as large device impedance and low signal-to-noise ratio.Further development in device design and preparation processes is required.Also,the development of monitoring data storage,wireless signal transmission,and stable self-supply of e-skin devices is still in its infancy.It is difficult to achieve the stability of signal analysis,storage,transmission and other processes.Systematic consideration of device integration and other aspects may realize the application of smart e-skin.(https://www.daowen.com)
