9.7.2.2 Postoperative complications of laser and e...
During laser surgery, laser device, treatment style, preoperative evaluation, parameter setting and operation, medical history of patients(e.g.,abnormal scarring, excessive sun exposure)or history of medication(e.g.,aspirin,nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)may affect the risk of laser complications. These complications include early complications of skin(e.g.,erythema,edema,infection),mid-term complications(e.g.,hyperpigmentation,hypopigmentation),late complications(e.g.,scarring).The early use of medical dressings after laser surgery can release early complications and reduce the risk of mid-term and late complications. The first two weeks after surgery is regarded as the key period of wound care.Medical dressings used for laser postoperative skin repair include the followings:(ⅰ)Open dressings:ointment or cream can be directly applied on the skin surface, which can promote wound healing and care easily, such as aquaphor. But this method may increase the risk of acne, milia and infection.(ⅱ)Closed dressings:This method can provide a moist wound healing environment, and has good effects. The disadvantages of closed dressings include high cost, long time of use, adhere to skin uneasily, and no absorption layer.Dressings commonly used in facial care after laser surgery include composite foam(Flexzan and Revitaderm),hydrogel(2nd Skin),polymer film(Silon-TSR),and polymer mesh(N-terface and Mepitel). It is recommended to use closed dressings for at least 24 h after laser surgery,no more than 4 days, and convert to open dressings on the 5th day to help reducing the infection rate. The purpose of wound care in the first week after laser surgery is to prevent skin infection, avoid environmental irritation, and achieve reepithelialization.
In summary, the modern biomedical dressings have a broad prospect in laser cosmetology, and they need to be further improved in terms of drug penetration and activity, water retention, air permeability, skin adhesion and so on.(https://www.daowen.com)
