1.2.3 Sensory function

Sensory nerves endings, motor nerves endings and special receptors are widely distributed in the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissues. They can sense various stimuli inside and outside the body, produce various sensations, and cause corresponding nerve reflexes. The sensation of the skin can be divided into two categories:single sensation and compound sensation. The nerve endings or special cystic receptors receive a single stimulus in and out of the body, convert into a certain action potential, pass into the center along with the corresponding nerve fiber, and finally produce sensations of tactile, pressure, cold, thalposis, pain,or itching, called single sensations;the stimuli co-sensed by different types of sensory nerve endings or receptors in the skin are introduced into the center and are comprehensively analyzed by the cerebral cortex. The sensations(e.g.,moisture,dryness,smoothness,roughness,hardness,and softness)are called compound sensations. In addition, the skin also has body sense,two-point discrimination, and localization sense.(https://www.daowen.com)
