5.3.1 Build a Museum for the 816 Nuclear Military Plant
The 816 Nuclear Military Plant is an engineering wonder of the Third-front Construction,which has great historical value and is suggested to apply for national key cultural relics protection unit.We can conduct activated protection,recover few equipment(or models),plan reasonable tourist routes in the cave,and open special tour of nuclear industrial equipment in the military cave.
A museum for China's Third-front Construction can be built outside the 816 Nuclear Military Plant to collect and display the real photos,archives of great achievements,major projects,important historical events and figures of the Third-front Construction.We can also set up theme museums to introduce the principle of atomic weapons,the protection and peaceful utilization of atomic energy.
In addition,we can combine Jianfeng Chemical Industry Tour with Baitao Wujiang Characteristic Tour.Jianfeng Chemical Factory is China's largest modern production base of nitrogen fertilizer with an annual output of 1.3 million tons of urea,which itself is a good industrial tourist attraction.The scenery of the 816 area along Wujiang River is very beautiful and Baitao Town is also a famous characteristic historical town in China.
5.3.2 Establish Xiaba National Defense Military Theme Park
Xiaba town is located in the southeast of Jiangjin,Chongqing.With an area of 39.4 square kilometers and a population of 19 000,Xiaba was set up specially for the enterprises and supporting enterprises(approx.30)of the Third-front Construction in Chongqing.There were originally two enterprises in Xiaba,Jinjiang Machinery Factory and Qingjiang Machinery Factory,which covered an area of 1 212 mu.The two factories were moved out in 2003,leaving more than 20 workshops,100 working rooms,90 residence and commercial buildings,various cultural,educational,medical and health facilities,and clubs that can accommodate more than 3 000 people.This place is one of the best-preserved industrial sites of the Third-front Construction in Chongqing or even in whole southwest China.(https://www.daowen.com)
The advantages of establishing a national defense military theme park in Xiaba include:a)Good accessibility.Xiaba is only 60 km away from Chongqing,with Chongqing-Guizhou Expressway and 210 National Road passing by.Besides,the Jiangjin-Qijiang section of the Third Ring Expressway of Chongqing,which was put in use in 2016 has an exit in Xiaba,which shortened the distance from Xiaba to the Chongqing city to less than an hour.b)Good land condition.The whole area for secondary development,which include Qingjiang Factory,Jinjiang Factory and the Iron Company of Chongqing Iron and Steel Group(Xiaba Iron Factory)in bankruptcy liquidation,amounts to 2 000 mu for a mega-project.Xiaba is a shallow hilly square area with stable geology,small relative height difference,lush vegetation and criss-crossing rivers and streams.c)Clear property rights.Qingjiang heritage site,Jinjiang heritage site and Xiaba Iron Factory are owned by Jiangjin district government,Agricultural Investment Group of Chongqing Municipal Commission on Stateowned Assets Supervision and Administration respectively,which all belong to Chongqing.
We can invite big financial groups to invest tens of billions of capital to build a huge theme park relating to the Third-front Construction or national defense and military and convert it into a national historical park.The park mainly includes:a)Characteristic towns relating to the Third-front Construction.We can use the current workshops,schools,recreational and health buildings in Jinjiang Factory area to build third-front cultural street,film production base and cinemas(movies or documentaries related to the Third-front Construction)to develop the film industry,photography,catering,entertaining and homestay facilities in the area.b)Army weapon exhibition rooms.We can collect and display in current workshops or open spaces the historical data,photos,relics and products of Chongqing's ordnance industry during the Anti-Japanese War period and the historical data and relics of Chongqing's ordnance base construction during the Third-front Construction period.Especially,we could make full use of the broad space of the park to display main battle equipment of our air,ground and naval forces,such as tanks,aircrafts,and small and mediumsized warships,and invite visitors for interaction.c)Military amusement parks.The hilly and brooky landform of the area is appropriate for military recreational activities,such as small arm shooting,touring in amphibious armoured vehicles,and races with military off-road vehicles,etc.We can conduct national defense education through these activities.Meanwhile,we can open IMAX theater and spherical cinema to project war movies or organize large 3D military electronic games.
5.3.3 Construct Qijiang Shuangxi Third-front Tourism Corridor
Shuangxi Machinery Factory in Qijiang was a large caliber artillery plant in the Third-front Construction.It was built along a canyon,which had a total area of 785 mu and room area of 110 000 square meters.The No.40 Military Plant of the Ordnance Bureau of the National Government used to be here during the Anti-Japanese War.The historical factory had three military caves with shooting ranges.Since the moving out of Shuangxi Factory,the property of the heritage site is still owned by China South Industries Group Corporation.
Zhangjiaba,where the heritage sites of Shuangxi Factory,is surrounded by steep mountains and good vegetation,with provincial highway S204(Ganshui-Liyuanba)and branch railways for carrying iron ore and coal constructed during the Third-front Construction.Near Zhangjiaba there were Qijiang Iron Mine and Songzao Coal Mine,which were both supporting factories for Chongqing's ordnance industry base during the Third-front Construction period.A recently built modernized Anwen Power Factory(2×150 000 kw+2×660 000 kw thermal power generating units)is also situated near Zhangjiaba.We can design a tourist route to view the heritage sites of the Third-front Construction and modern energy industry by taking an old-fashioned train into the mountain area.We can also develop industrial tourism by transforming the coal railway branch and introducing steam locomotive and old-fashioned passenger train to create reminiscence atmosphere,and visiting military heritage sites,iron mine,coal mine and power factory.In addition,we can organize military activities on the shooting ranges of Shuangxi Factory.
