Research Directions

Nevertheless,based on the state of the above-described research,there remain several serious deficiencies in Chinese industrial heritage research.These concern the following issues:(1)the history of Chinese industrial technology considered from the perspective of international exchanges of knowledge;(2)the census of industrial heritage and nationwide acquisition of information,along with research on the establishment of a database that allows for data visualization;(3)research on systematic value estimation of Chinese industrial heritage;(4)conducting a comprehensive survey of the current state of heritage conservation/regeneration,and strategic research on integrated planning,as well as the reconstruction and reutilization of individual buildings;and(5)research on current survey efforts,as well as urban cultural policies,motivation analysis,and the typology of industrial heritage,which can be viewed as a form of cultural industry.

Regarding the above issues,this research project has five main subtopics:(1)the study of industrial modernization including international perspectives;(2)industrial heritage information acquisition and database creation;(3)industrial heritage value assessment;(4)planning and design strategy studies concerning industrial heritage reutilization;and(5)transitioning from industrial heritage conservation to the development of a cultural industry.(https://www.daowen.com)

In terms of research methodology,several approaches were adopted:(1)international comparative studies;(2)integrated research of documentary sources and oral history;(3)field surveys of pilot areas;(4)digital information management,three-dimensional laser scanning,photography,and mapping technology;and(5)a number of case studies were conducted.
