3.The Core Content and Development Trend of the Conservation of Shanghai Hero Pen Factory

Through the successful practice of industrial heritage conservation in Shanghai Hero Pen Factory,three core contents of industrial heritage conservation are summarized as follows.The first core content is cultural capital which can be enterprise history,material changes of enterprises like site migration and also intangible cultural elements,including,major events,important achievements,and collective memory.The second would be the industrial historic buildings like architectural history,architectural function,architectural style,architectural features,and architectural integrity.The third is about the industrial neighborhood style and features,such as space texture,landscape texture like surrounding environment,vegetation,and featured landscape,etc.

Shanghai Hero Pen Factory has demonstrated the overall conservation of industrial neighborhoods and industrial heritage well.Based on the successful experience of the practice,the development trend of industrial heritage conservation was put forward.First,at the material heritage level,the focus has shifted from the conservation of single buildings to the overall conservation of industrial neighborhoods,including such elements as space,pattern,building itself,transportation,landscape,environment,etc.Second,the conservation objects are also extended from tangible heritage like the material elements of the industrial heritage to the intangible heritage,which means proper attention has also been paid to the conservation of the intangible heritage with special significance and representativeness,including such elements as history,humanities,industrial technology,production mode,process flow,industrial contribution,relevant honors,enterprise development process,brand culture,etc.
