1.2 Industrial Historic Building
1.2.1 History of Building Construction
The building of Hero Pen Factory,carrier of material civilization and historic witness of national industrial benchmark brand,has gone through phases of design,construction,application and discontinuation of use.In the early days of the Factory,it has already been equipped with supporting facilities such as lactation room,bathroom,sports ground and green field,which were avant-garde at that time.By 1965,the site of the factory had been significantly expanded with twelve newly-built buildings and four old buildings expanded.In the 1960s,Golden Pen Factory began to pay attention to environmental issues and proposed to build sewage treatment ponds.By 1971,one building was demolished and the newly-built compression molding workshop was expanded by adding storeys.By 1973,there were thirteen newly-built buildings and two new expansion buildings based on the newly-built compression-moulding workshops with additional floors added.In 1975,the Revolutionary Committee of Shanghai Municipal Construction Bureau agreed to build workshops under storey-adding structures in Hero Pen Factory.In 1979,four new buildings were built and four old buildings were expanded for drawing pen and advanced pen workshops.In 1985,three new buildings were built and four old buildings were expanded for the injection molding workshop,electroplating workshop and waste treatment projects.Besides,flower beds was added at the entrance of the factory.In 1992,new hardware warehouses were added,while the rest of the buildings remained unchanged.The axis and grid network of the factory have basically been formed.By now,two areas in the Northwest corner of the factory have been demolished and renovated,and another building on the south side of the factory has been demolished and transformed into flower beds.
1.2.2 Architectural Features
In terms of architectural function,the architectural aesthetics in Hero Pen Factory Park is not only related to formal beauty,but also has a great deal to do with beauty in technical and functional aspects.In terms of architectural style,Hero Pen Factory,a model of modern light industry,has fully recorded the typical characteristics of light industry factories in different historical periods,from ten main factories in Soviet style in 1954 to new buildings built along with the expansion of production.Styles of factory buildings differ in different historical periods.Buildings with different functions,serving as archive rooms,laboratories,office buildings,material storehouses,garage,lactation rooms,showrooms,nib workshops,pen-holder workshops,warehouses,advanced pen workshops,hardware warehouses,or distribution departments,boast their own distinctive characteristics.

The evolution of the old building complex of Hero Pen Factory is a supplement,improvement and upgrading of industrial bases in different periods.The appearance of each industrial building from 1950s to 1990s is reflected in the map.The evolution of the factory,a typical case of the rise of state-owned brands and light industry,is the epitome of the national growth.
