一、词性转换法
英文与中文在词性的运用上相差甚远，英文有动词的名词化形式，如description，consideration，fulfillment等，因此，在翻译过程中，要注意词性转换。没有词性转换的知识储备，很难迈出翻译的第一步。
（一）名词转换成动词
例1：He gave a vivid description of Maria’s character in his novel.在他的小说里他生动地描绘了玛丽亚的性格特征。
例2：An acquaintance with some western manner is helpful to our international trade.
了解一点外国礼仪对国际贸易是有帮助的。
例3：The cause of all this is a thing so small that it can hardly be seen even under a microscope.
这一切均起因于一个小得连显微镜都几乎难以看见的东西。
例4：Even an elementary knowledge of statistics is sufficient to en able the journalist to avoid misleading his readers.
即使懂一点儿统计学也足以使记者避免误导读者。
例5：If this irritating mass is not vomited but reaches the bowel，colic and diarrhea may be the result.
如果这种刺激物不吐出来而进入肠道，就可能导致腹绞痛和腹泻。
例6：No wonder information is sometimes called the lifeblood of a control system.
信息有时候被称为控制系统生命力之所在不足为怪。
例7：The distinction between light and pigment is important to col or theory.
如何区分光和色对于色彩理论来说很重要。
（二）动词转换成名词
例1：We are aiming in this period to teach recognition of the topic sentence as quickly as possible.
我们这堂课的主要目的是讲授尽快识别主题句。
例2：Electronic computers mean so much in our future life that without it our future life would be unimaginable.
电脑在我们未来生活中意义重大。没有它，未来生活将难以想象。
例3：He affirmed that we were wrongly informed.
他断言我们听到的消息错了。
例4：I was deeply impressed by his prodigious talent.
他过人的才智给我留下了深刻的印象。
例5：Women have taken jobs in male-dominated careers because these jobs pay more.
女士们已在男士一统天下的职业圈内就职，因为这些工作薪水丰厚。
例6：It will allow companies to operate in whatever manner and with whatever equipment they choose as long as they meet required reductions in emissions.
它允许公司以他们选择的任何方式、任何设备进行运作，只要他们满足减少排放的要求。
例7：I think lawyers mistakenly believe complex language enhances the mystique of the law.
我认为律师有个错误的想法：复杂的语言能增加法律的深奥性。
（三）形容词转换成动词
例1：She seems content to sit in front of TV all night.
看来她愿意在电视机前坐个通宵。
例2：She is a good cook and the meat she makes is very tender.
她很善于烹饪，烧的肉很嫩。
例3：What did you mean by saying that I am untidy in my habit？
你说我平时不修边幅是什么意思？
例4：They strive for lower birth rate.
他们努力降低出生率。
例5：Doctors have said that they are not sure they can save her life but they would try their best.
医生说他们不确定能否救得了她，但他们会尽力的。
例6：The only requirement is that the behaviour of the individual be desirable according to the assumptions and values.
高校英语翻译常用的翻译技巧唯一的要求是必须依照承担的义务和价值表达一个人的行为。
例7：His name was familiar to many people.
许多人熟悉他的名字。
（四）形容词转换成名词
例1：Achievement is sometimes in tersely proportional if to effort expended.
一个人的成就有时候与付出成反比。
例2：The increasing force leads to an increasing speed or velocity so that an acceleration is obtained.
力的增加导致速度或速率的增加，从而获得加速度。
例3：Later developments lay mainly in improved methods of manufature rather than in new principles.
后来的发展主要着力于制造方法的改进上，而不是新原理的研究上。
例4：The man I am seeking to fill this position must be personable since he will present us before the public.
我正在寻找的那位能担任此职的人须有魅力，因为他将在公众面前代表我们（公司）。
（五）名词转换成形容词
例1：The foreign visitors are surprised to watch the throng of peo ple on Nanjing Road.
外宾们惊讶地注视着南京路上熙熙攘攘的人群。
例2：What is of prime importance for us now is to take care of your health.
对我们来说最重要的事是照顾好你的身体。
例3：After it I came to realize the absurdity of dealing with them through intermediaries.
事后我才意识到通过中间人与他们打交道是愚蠢的。
（六）副词转换成形容词
例1：I think the above remarks are quite to the point.
我认为以上的评语是相当中肯的。
例2：What we did is also in line with economic and foreign policy of our present government.
我们的行为并不违背我国现行政府的经济和外交政策。
例3：After the meeting we formed up outside the hall and marched on against the piercing wind to George Square.
大会后我们在大厅外列队，并冒着刺骨的寒风朝乔治广场前进。
例4：Since efficiency is in an inverse ratio to losses and waste，they must be kept to a minimum.
效率与损耗和浪费成反比，它们必须保持到最低限度。
