An Empirical Study on Assessment of Critical Thinking Ability of Undergraduates of a“Double First Class”Construction University

Abstract:The cultivation of critical thinking plays an important role in the development of undergraduates'innovative spirit and creativity in which the evaluation of critical thinking ability is a very important aspect.The California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory and the California Critical Thinking Skills Test were employed to investigate the critical thinking ability of undergraduates of an engineering major in a“double first class”construction university.The survey results show that the surveyed students have good or strong critical thinking skills while more than 26%of the surveyed students possess no critical thinking disposition or attitude.Therefore,there is still much room for the“double first class”construction university to improve to cultivate undergraduates'critical thinking ability,especially critical thinking disposition.Accordingly,strategies and suggestions for cultivating college undergraduates'critical thinking ability are put forward.
